From its humble 17th-century begginings as a port town to a medieval trading giant, glittering republic, foreign-occupied base and serb-beseiged war zone, Dubrovnik’s story is a remarkable one. Today, it’s simply one of Europe’s most awe-inspiring cities and the best way of sampling it’s heritage is by making the 2km Walk on The Dubrovnik Walls. On one side, you have flame-red roofs and ornate steeples. On the other, there’s the clear blue-green of the Adriatic. The walls are studded with towers and fortresses, offering views of fishermen and islands or church bells and marbled plazas.
